The South West Inter-Counties DTL at Newnham Park on 11th October
2009
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the Newnham Park staff, of which were very
accommodating. Unfortunately, it was a damp and dreary morning, which didn’t get
any better throughout the day. All of the Hampshire boys arrived early, we were
all ready to get on with the job in hand. Photographs were taken in the grounds
of the beautiful estate and we were ready not only shooting for the South West
Inter-Counties DTL but also for the Cabbage Cup. For those of you who don’t
know, the cabbage cup is a long standing competition between Hampshire and the
Isle of Wight. This came about 20+ years ago when the two teams discussed the
competition. Hampshire said they would bring the cup and the Isle of Wight said
that they would bring the cabbage. The winners took home the cup; the losers
took home the cabbage.
Hampshire’s 2 teams never got off to the best of starts, dropping the odd bird
here and there. We wound up dropping 10 birds, from a total of 500 and came
nowhere in the ranks. Such is the strength of the Inter-County teams! Anybody
out there that wishes to shoot for Hampshire next year, please feel free to fill
in the blue slips and shoot 295+ out of 300 to get a look in!
Our hero of the day was Mr Toomer, who missed his very 1st bird and
then went on to shoot 99 1st Barrel kills for a score of 297. Now all
we need is 9 more like him! But the climax of the day was the Cabbage Cup which
Hampshire won. Hooray! Just as well the Isle of Wight didn’t turn up then…!
I would like to thank all the lads that took the time to drive to Newnham Park
and compete. They gave it their all, but even with 4 AA guns on our teams, we
had to eat humble pie.
We would like to wish the other Hampshire disciplines all the best for the
future.
Best wishes from all the DTL/Single Barrel boys.

ABT Inter Counties Sunday 4th October.
Full teams ventured down to Southern Counties shooting ground and Oh boy what a
ground, over the years the Hampshire members have watched this ground develop
the new 40 room hotel so near finished, excellent!!! We sent a good team, not
the strongest team but we held our own. At the half way we where level leaders
with Devon and then we slipped, we missed several targets at the three quarter
stage and in the final stage, this placed us second to Devon. High gum for
Hampshire was Tony Gentili and Phil Eames both on 91. full score line up and
results go to our web www.hampshirecpsa.org.uk

The 2009 Southwest Inter Counties Fitasc
Championship.
The 2009 Southwest Intercounties Fitasc Championship took place at Wylye
Valley Shooting Ground on the 4th October. It was perfect clay shooting weather,
with overcast skies, just a gentle breeze and the temperature not too hot or too
cold. It was agreed by all that it was a very enjoyable shoot and that Ian
Stones had pitched the difficulty of each of the five layouts just right. The
total entry was fourteen squads and all the SW counties were represented.
Hampshire entered the full quota of two senior squads, and also Ladies and Vets
teams, all looking the part in their smart Hampshire shooting vests. Somerset
had been the county to beat for the past dozen years but Hampshire had won twice
in the past three so were rightly the favourites. And so it was at the finish,
with Hampshire posting 511, comfortably ahead of Devon on 496 with Somerset on
485. Ron King led the way with an excellent 89, supported by Trevor Bell 86,
Andy Shore & Mal Grant on 85, Des Sturgess on 84 and Steve Watts & the colourful
Rick Stala on 82. The ladies also retained the SW FITASC title. Of note Carole
Sawkins, shooting only her third FITASC competition, posted an excellent score
of 82, putting many an experienced shooter to shame! We did not, however, take
the Veterans prize, something to be addressed next year to make it a clean
sweep. Our thanks go to Bell Microsystems and Medicom Healthcare for their
support and sponsorship and the Rod Box for the team goody bags and discount
vouchers. And finally congratulations and thanks to the Hampshire FITASC teams
for their fantastic effort.

100 Olympic Trap – Inter County Championships – Sunday 16th
August 2009
Yes at long last summer had finally arrived, be it that here we are half way
through August. At long last the weather conditions were favourable for what one
would only describe as a typical summers day being warm and sunny with a slight
but sometimes moderate breeze.
Taking part in this event were 61 individuals from across the regional counties
of Hampshire, Devon, Wiltshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight with Hampshire
being represented by 12 members who travelled down to Southern Counties to shoot
in this Inter Counties Olympic Trap competition. Hampshire Squad 1 represented
the Hampshire Champion and Team Captain Rod Gould with Adam Twine, Tim Rowe,
Nigel Reynolds, Phil Eames and Tony Gentili whilst Squad 2 comprised Peter
Thomson, Tanya Whitfield, Brian Pragnell, Doug Vidler, John Lower and David
Bennett. It was quite evident that Hampshire Squad 1 stood a really good chance
of winning the title with such a good depth, strength and experience of
individual within the Squad. At the half way point Squad 1 had attained a team
score of 263/300 targets with a final posting score of 530/600 targets. At the
end of the day and with all the scores in and logged, Hampshire were declared
the Winners of this competition with Devon finishing on 509/600, Wiltshire
495/600, Dorset 457/600 and Isle of Wight 431/600.
Congratulations firstly to Adam Twine who took the overall High Gun and Title.
Secondly to all those other Hampshire members who took part in this competition
and to the top 6 Hampshire individual scores which formed the overall team score
of 530/600. These were Adam Twine 95/100, Rod Gould 92/100, Tim Rowe 89/100,
Tony Gentili 86/100, Brian Pragnell 84/100 and Nigel Reynolds 84/100.

Report by Graham Tourle – Hampshire Single
Barrel & DTL Team Manager.
Hampshire Championship – Single Barrel at Southern Counties 9th
August 2009.
After our long awaited summer, the sunshine finally put his hat on for the
Inter-Counties Single Barrel shoot at Southern Counties. As per usual, Kevin and
Anthea had arranged the day perfectly making the event enjoyable right from the
start. Seven Counties attended which made eighteen five-man squads to shoot on
the day for the honour of being Single Barrel champions.
Hampshire met quietly in the car park for a team bonding session and to receive
their Hampshire shooting vests. We have been kindly sponsored by Bell
Microsystems Ltd and Medicom Healthcare Ltd who paid for the vests and badges to
be made. The team were very impressed and looked like a million dollars. We were
the only people which were fully kitted out as a fifteen-man team, which made
every one of us proud to wear our Hampshire vests.
The Colts and Veterans squad were the first to shoot for Hampshire. The two
Colts had a good, positive attitude and showed no emotion when a clay was
missed. I feel that they are true champions in the making and that they are an
asset to the Hampshire team. The three Veterans have been there, seen it and
done it and shot their hearts out, but unfortunately they were just beaten on
the day. They shot alongside the Colts and looked very smart in their Hampshire
vests.
The Seniors were made up of two five-man squads which shot at one-hundred clays
each, equalling one-thousand clays. The top four Counties shot at four-thousand
clays. The finishing result was only two clays difference between 1st
and joint 3rd positions. Unfortunately we were one of the joint 3rd
teams.
The Hampshire Single Barrel team are off to Newnham Park on October 11th
and I’d be proud to take this squad of fifteen. 110% effort was given by all and
it was a pleasure to lead this team. We hope the result will be a more
favourable one next time!!
We would like to wish luck to all the other Hampshire teams in their forthcoming
events.
Best wishes from all the DTL/Single Barrel boys.

The Hampshire FITASC Championship 2009 took place on the 26th
July at Wylye Valley Shooting Ground.
We had been promised a better summer this year, but on the day it was cool
and cloudy with a drizzle of rain in the afternoon. The wind changed constantly,
providing a variation of targets as the day progressed.
As usual the shoot was over subscribed and a total of a dozen squads took on Ian
Stone’s challenge. Hampshire was appropriately represented with 22 shooters from
the FITASC champion’s county.
Ian , as usual these days, put on a fair but very testing course. Five layouts
of 20 targets each gave us all a fantastic variety of targets, with Hill and
Quarry both defeating many respected names! Dropping blaze targets, deceptive
battues and testing doubles all took their toll of points amongst the shooters.
It was good to see the Hampshire shooters compete, but the final scores provided
even more entertainment and tension. Two guns, Des Sturgess and Steve Watts,
both previous Hampshire Champions and GB team members, tied on the same final
score. A shoot-off! What fun for the rest of us!
It was agreed that a single peg would be the decider with doubles a and sudden
death if both were tied at the end of the first round . Des won the toss and
shot first. Steve shot second and won the Hampshire FITASC trophy!
Well done!
Sarah Hamburger was the lady Champion and the overall winner in that category.
From today’s showing Hampshire are as strong in spirit and talent as ever and we
are looking forward to defending our titles at the SW Inter-Counties at Wylye in
October.
Bring it on Somerset!

Report by David Bennett Hampshire CPSA Chairman.
Hampshire Championship – 150 DT at Southern Counties Sunday 26th
July 2009.
Here we are now at the end of July and again the weather left a lot to be
desired on the day with the conditions being overcast and windy and the rain
finally arriving in the afternoon. However, the conditions did not deter the 8
Hampshire members who travelled to Southern Counties to shoot this registered
competition even though some of members had never even shot the discipline
before.
Again it was far from easy with the crucial factor being the wind which played
havoc in the targets constantly moving up and down. The 3 major contenders were
Doug Vidler, Ben Gordge, and Brian Jewell all of whom needed a reasonable score
from there last 50 targets. Having Doug shot DT on a number of occasions and
having just missed out on winning last weekends Hampshire DTL Competition, Doug
was keen and eager to post a good score to hopefully secure the title of
Hampshire DT Champion. However, Doug was up against Ben Gordge who was looking
for his 3rd Hampshire Championship title having already won both the
Single Barrel and ABT events earlier on in the year. With the final scores
recorded it revealed that Ben had won the Competition by just 1 target recording
a 105/150 with Doug on a 104/150 and Brian Jewell on a 102/150.
Well Done and Congratulations to Ben who is certainly having a great year in all
disciplines.

Report by David Bennett Hampshire CPSA Chairman.
Hampshire Championship – 100 DTL at Fareham Clay Target Club Sunday 19th
July 2009.
Yes you would have thought that in July we would certainly have been
guaranteed good weather with not a cloud in the sky and the temperature warm. A
total of 25 Competitors braved the overcast but windy day to take part in this
shoot to hopefully become the Hampshire DTL Champion. It was certainly not easy
from the onset of the competition and as the day progressed, the wind became
even stronger with the targets constantly being moved up and down on the wind.
With the score board constantly changing we eventually had a Winner with Graham
Tourle becoming the Hampshire DTL Champion on a finishing score of 98/286. This
was very closely followed by Doug Vidler who posted a finishing score of 96/282
having shot his last 50 targets for a 50/149. In third place and finishing on a
score of 95/282 was Les Stephenson.
Well Done and Congratulations to Graham who is now both Team Manager and
Captain for the Hampshire Inter County Squad at the Inter County DTL Competition
to be held on Sunday 11th October at Newnham Park.

Report by Brian Coupe, OT Team Manager.
Hampshire OT Championship at NCSC Bisley. Sunday 7th June.
It was the much awaited Hampshire OT Championship at NCSC and although
the weather had promised to try and drench us all it failed and we
managed to have a lovely dry day with just enough sunshine to keep us
happy.
Shooting Olympic Trap is the hardest discipline for most trap shooters
and getting 20 ex 25 is the best many of us would hope for unless your
name is Rod Gould when anything less than a 23 is best forgotten. Right
from the start Rod led with his 23 followed by Nigel Reynolds on 21,
our other top shot Tim Rowe had a bad start with 18 and never really
caught up after that.
Rod went on to shoot 23, 22 & 22 to finish on 90 ex 100 , whilst Nigel
got into gear and shot extremely well to shoot 21,24 & 24 and catch up
with Rod and equal his 90.
This meant we needed a shoot off to decide who would be Hampshire OT
Champion for 2009 so we all eagerly gathered at the layout to watch our
two top shoots do battle. Well Nigel went first and missed his target,
oh no we all went ! Rod followed and hit his, that's when the ref
awarded the title to Rod as under OT rules it is apparently sudden
death in a shoot off.
well we were surprised that it should end like that and no one was
happy so I had a word with the ground staff and they agreed that as it
was for a County title we could go ahead and re-shoot a round of 25 each
(thanks for that Barry & Dan) and so we did. All the experience of
being an England team member shone through Rod and he thoroughly enjoyed
showing us how to shoot 25 straight to win titles, Nigel had a bad
patch where he missed five targets in a row and could only finish with
an 18 and so Rod is the new Hampshire OT Champion.
Thanks to all the 13 Hampshire guns who turned up ,we shot the best we
could but more importantly we had a good time and enjoyed the day out,
well done guys and until the next time.

Report by Andy Gordge.
Hampshire
Sporting championship at South Downs. Monday 3rd May.
Dave Peckham and his team played host to the Hampshire Sporting Championship
yet again and this year Dave gave the Sporting members a great day out. The
course Dave and his team prepared earlier in the week gave the best of our
Hampshire shots a tough time.
The weather didn’t help, cold and windy but boy did the venue pull in a huge
entry, not just from Hampshire but Sussex as well who held their Championship
there too.
It’s a shame, I hear you say that there is not a ground in Hampshire that will
host the Sporting Championship which has the biggest following of all the
disciplines shot by far.
A good turn out by Hampshire included several entries from the Ladies, Juniors
and Vet’s, As the day progressed and the scores returned to the club house the
names synonymous to the Sporting discipline like Richard Faulds, Ron King, Neil
Lockton, Rick Stala returning with scores in the eighties sent alarm bells
ringing to those waiting to shoot. Had Dave Peckham set a really hard course?
Which many have criticized him for in the past well talking to the team manager
it would appear some targets were a bit extreme, like a high tower quartering
away from the shoot position.
And when George Digweed returned with a 92 several Hampshire heads dropped, but
hey ho it’s the same for all that entered but sole destroying to those
desperately wanting a Hampshire Team vest on their back, even George Digweed
tried to get one but unfortunately he lives over the border, damn shame as we
would love George to be in a Hampshire team, ever thought of moving George!!!
Ben Gordge, the Hampshire team manager, made a very good effort to make sure
that there would be the big silver Champions Cup and shields for the worthy
winners. A big thank you on his behalf to Atul Vijay who’s company Medicome very
kindly sponsored the Ladies and Juniors Shields.
As the day concluded the final scores in it would appear that Neil Lockton had
returned with a score of 88 earlier in the day and was announced by Dave Peckham
as the Hampshire Champion, Ben presented the Hampshire Cup and badge and a bonus
of Fifty pounds sponsored by the company SWL of Southampton.
But wait a minute a late returning score card with 90/100 and the name Colin
Crockford a Hampshire member lands on the reception desk at 4.00pm, oop’s
jumping the gun comes to mind and an embarrassing situation, sorry Neil an over
site by the ground who thought that the card might have been binned and no
further Hampshire cards were out there.
A new presentation ceremony by Ben and Dave Peckham this time to the delighted
Colin who put in a personal best of 90 and collected the Cup, Title and
Hampshire team Captains badge.
Colin who normally shoots at Tadley and Wylye Valley made the special trip to
South downs as a change and did not realise there was the Hampshire Championship
being staged so was quite surprised when he returned and saw the Hampshire
prizes and quite innocently enquired as to would his score count. As he is a
Hampshire resident a large spanner in the scoring system was heard to drop, well
done Collin and we hope you will lead the Hampshire team at Newnham Park later
this year.
The ladies Championship title went to Tanya Goodman who shot an excellent 70,
well done and we hope you lead the ladies section in the Inter-counties too.
Junior Champion title went to sixteen year old Luke Elliot with a 77 and like
Tanya, Luke will be looking at the other juniors scores nearer the time to find
two more to join him at Newnham Park as well.
So the top ten of the day, Collin Crockford 90, Neil Lockton 88, Richard Faulds
87, Trevor Bell 86, Ron King 85, Ben Gordge team manager 82, Rick Stala 82, R
May 80, Chimmy Chunge 79 and Nigel Frampton tied with D Gray on 78.
Don’t forget the 80 open sporting at Fareham CTC on the 24th of this month £100
bonus High Gun kindly sponsored by South Hants Volvo this is on top of the
normal High gun prize and of course prizes in all Competition entry classes.

Hampshire regional report by Andy Gordge.
Hampshire Single Barrel.
Fareham CTC 5th April was the venue for the Hampshire single
barrel competition and it was quite well attended on this sunny Sunday.
Several well known Trap shooters went after this Hampshire title including two
of the England DTL team Dave Toomer and Brian Vass but with out that second
barrel it was to prove disappointing to them especially when a Sporting member
beats you at your own game. Ben Gordge was in tune that day and decided to have
ago as Ben said when you shoot sporting you rarely have two shots at a single
target hence he cracked in a 48 ex 50 the two lost were put down to equipment
break downs when calling for the target.
He then went on to shoot a twenty five straight in the shoot off for High Gun
against a Berkshire member. Ben was presented with the distinctive Hampshire
Shooting Team Vest the Hampshire Champion wire badge by David Bennett the
Hampshire Chairman. Ben will now Captain the single barrel team at the
inter-counties event at Southern Counties on August 9th.

Bell backs the Hampshire teams again.
Alister Bell the owner of Bell Microsystems based in Portsmouth has very
kindly offered to support the Hampshire teams again this year. Hampshire
Chairman David Bennett was very instrumental in raising the financial support
last year which gave every I/C team entrant a very distinctive Top Gun shooting
vest David will stay on as Chairman as too many of the management team.
Reflecting back over 2009 the vest incentive really worked with Hampshire
winning several of the inter-counties, and if we did not win overall the
individual members won most of the class prizes, fantastic.
It was the first time that I can remember the Hampshire CPSA management team
winning six of the Hampshire Championship titles between them.
Many CPSA members from other counties have said Hampshire can turn out some
really strong teams so we hope 2010 will be even better.
Newnham Park I/C Sporting.
One such I/C win was at Newnham October 25th, well done to the team manager
Ben Gordge who using the qualifying scoring system and a lot of phone calls
pulled together some very strong teams.
To get two senior teams a ladies, juniors and Vets team together and get them
all to Newnham Pk, some three hours away takes some doing.
Lead by team Captain Collin Crockford with fellow senior team members Richard
Faulds, John D Heagren, Trevor Bell, M E Grant, Neil Lockton, C Cheung, Ben
Gordge and P Walford. The other counties watched and weeped when John Heagren
belted in a 95, then a 91 followed by three 90’s giving a winning score of 456.
Ladies team, Sarah Hamburger, Carol Sawkins, and Tanya Whitfeild. 132 giving
them 2nd place.
Juniors Luke Elliott, Rob Stapleton and Adam Ewens. A winning 172 between them.
Vets. B Jewel and M Lambert. Returning a 164 placing them 2nd.
And out of the top 15 scores that day from 132 entries seven were Hampshire
members.
Team manager Ben would like to thank all the above mentioned for their efforts
and commitment to Hampshire.
DTL I/C Newnham Park.
Not so lucky Hampshires DTL team came up against some tough competition from
the other counties it was a long way to go which probably did not help. Dave
Toomer shone for Hampshire missing his first target out and then went on to post
99 first barrel kills.
Chairman David Bennett and his team managers would like to give their thanks to
all the members that participated in the 2009 qualifying system, travelled and
entered into the I/C teams were ever they were held. David and the team hope
that your enthusiasm to represent Hampshire and shoot for the individual
Championships will carry on through 2010. With the renewed support from Bell
Microsystems the team will be looking hard at ways to reward all the shooting
achievements by Hampshire members in 2010.

Where has the year gone!!
Many thanks to Bell Microsystems and Medicome for their very generous
sponsorship which under the guidance of Hampshire Chairman David Bennett it was
put to excellent use. The Hampshire shooting vests that were created with the
sponsorship money gave something to focus on to shoot for, when a member
received a vest and a place in an I/C team it rubber stamped a shooting
achievement well done to all of those members that now own a very distinctive
shooting vest.
I on behalf of the Hampshire Team led by David Bennett wish all the members
an excellent Christmas and New Year.

Hampshire Skeet Championship at
Fareham CTC 31st May.
Rick Stala the well known colourful
shooting star collected yet another Hampshire Champion title, this time it is
the Skeet Championship with a fantastic display of concentration from the start,
25 straight followed by another straight and another. Then his face hit the deck
when he missed the first target out on stand one but Rick was skilled enough not
to let it effect him and banged in the rest 99 ex 100, Rick, your the man.

14th June ABT Fareham Ben
bags yet another title.
The Fareham ABT layouts play host to the Hampshire ABT championship and
there was no surprise a lot turned up for this favourite trap discipline. The
trap boys where still smiling about the Single barrel title being snatched from
the grasp of several England team members by Sporting member Ben Gordge in April
only to see the cheeky smiling Ben book on for the ABT at Fareham. A great deal
of leg pulling went on from several of the ABT England team when he came in with
a 21 ex 25 on the first stint but it soon lessened off when Ben clocked up the
next 50 straight and was well on his way to 75 but let one slip away. Not to
worry the score board can’t lie Ben is the 2009 Hampshire ABT Champion and his
smile is even bigger.
It was not that many years ago
Hampshire’s Ben Gordge stood on the Embassy world Sporting Champion rostrum with
Richard Faulds and Ben Brunting collecting a big cheque and cut glass decanter
for winning B class, he had a big smile that day too.

Hants and Wilts DTL Championship at Fareham CTC Wednesday April 29th.
A very popular mid week Competition ten squads all took a day off work and met
up for a great day at the Titchfield Lane venue the sun shone and the
competition heads switched on.
The scores came in thick and fast several twenty five straights posted early but
as time went on the C class member D Vidler edged out in front and kept the
pressure on and took the title of Hants and Wilts Champion with a 99/290.
The return of Graham Tourle to the DTL scene has been interesting his scores
this season creeping up and up he recently posted a 100/294 at Maylands then
equalled High gun with Brian Vass with a 99/295 yet another member focusing on
one of those Hampshire Team vests.
Sport Trap at South Downs GC 26th April.
Another Hampshire Championship and yet again a good turn out for the Sport
Trap at Dave Peckhams ground and Dave put on some tricky targets for the
Hampshire members coupled with the good weather it made for a good competition.
The good old faithful members made it into the top ten but Neil Lockton went a
head and posted a grand 91 five clear of Ron King and ten clear of position
three member A Harper on 81. Sixteen year old Luke Elliott beat fifth place Rick
Stala 77, C Chunge 77, M Webb 75, Lee Chambers 75, Martin Bell 75 and the Solent
sprinkler Nigel Frampton 74.
Neil will now Captain the I/C team at Newnham Park on the 4th of
October and hopefully using that 34 inch Perazzi MX12 lead the team to a
victory.

Club Champion Stephen Halfacre
March 15th 100 ABT at Fareham CTC a good start to the shooting
year for Stephen Halfacre proving why he is in the England team yet again a
solid 95 taking the High gun position and also becoming the Club Champion. Close
on his tail was Hampshire member Tim Rowe posting a 94 taking 1st in
"A" class.
Fareham’s non registered Sporting layouts are still entertaining the masses
getting even more popular than ever, here is a tip don’t go to early wait until
mid day and the bulk of the visitors are going off for Sunday lunch. Seven
stands fifty targets from fourteen challenging trap positions and much smaller
queues and last entry 2.30 pm. Rick Stala took High Gun with 48, 1st
in "AA" Ben Gordge 47, Ron King 46 and Derek Campion 45.
Hampshire Top Gun Vest’s
A big thank-you to Swift UK near Fair Oak specialists in embroidering shoots
accessories like the Hampshire shoot vests and what a job they have made of our
team vests. Mr Alastair Bell of our main sponsor Bell Micro Systems Ltd handed the first
of seventy vests over to a very proud Chairman, David Bennett.
To view all our sponsors go to on our web site hampshirecpsa.org.uk the site is
up dated at incredible speed by John Lower. Results are on the screen on the
same day or the following day after shoots all the Championship fixtures and
news etc it’s now a must for members to visit.
First of the Hampshire Championships.
The All-round is a discipline to test the flexibility of member’s a hundred
targets four disciplines ABT, S/B, Skeet and Sporting great stuff.
Fareham CTC is the only ground in Hampshire able to put on the All-Round and on
Sunday 29th March they didn’t fail to entertain a really good turn
out by members a total of nineteen squads on this sunny Sunday. The score board
is always of interest watching the trap shooters Sporting scores, the Skeet
shooters trap scores etc one member showed he is a great All-round participant
Rick Stala did well from the off posting a 23 in the ABT and 24 in the Sporting
section.
Moving into the afternoon he went on and shot a 20 on the single barrel and a 22
on the skeet which was enough to lift the Hampshire shield, badge and title of
Captain for the All Round inter-counties at Newnham Park on 18th
October.
The ground was also the Championship venue for Sussex, Berkshire and was also
the clubs Presidents Cup final which was won by the young Luke Elliott with an
86.
Ironically the only 25 straight in any discipline shot that day by the 39
Hampshire entries was posted by me on the ABT finishing seventh overall, the
others making up the top ten where C Cheung 85, Andy Shore 85, Ben Gordge 85, MC
Allen 84, P Moran 83, Steve Watts 83 and Nigel Reynolds 82.

New Chairman new idea’s, new passion.
David Bennett chaired his first team meeting on the 18th of
February and invited to that meeting were all the future team managers that
volunteered their help and support at the AGM held in January.
David made it clear he had several items and ideas he wished to achieve in
the forth coming year, for me it was obvious that David has the driving force
the passion and the inspiration to kick start the Hampshire competition scene.
One of several topics up for debate was how we are going to get you the
members to shoot for Hampshire using the very generous sponsorship money raised.
The final proposed way to resolve a few initial problems that have faced
management teams in the past such as the lack of enthusiasm to shoot in the
inter-counties and what could we give the individual team member to be proud of
as reward for their achievement in making a team?
Well I am very pleased to announce on behalf of the new Chairman and his
management team that they plan to give each member that makes an inter-county
team a very distinctive shooting vest and yes I did state give. They hope this
will both encourage member’s interest in representing Hampshire in the team
events and the teams would also look extremely smart at the venues.
If you make the team it would be a condition that the vests are worn at
competition venues this would give a great team presence I’m sure that any
recipient of such a prestigious shooting accessory will be wearing it all the
time at all the shoots.
Botley based Town and Country Sports have very kindly discounted the purchase
price of their popular black "Top Gun" shooting vest. The vests will have the
Hampshire rose encircled with Hampshire shooting Team on the front and the
"Hampshire Shooting Team" logo across the rear shoulder area with the sponsors
name and logo "Bell Microsystems Systems Ltd" below.
To qualify for a Hampshire team place in your discipline is not going to be
easy the teams sent to represent Hampshire will be made up of members that have
registered the highest three scores out of the last five results. The scores
will be on the CPSA registered score board and the cut off date will be twenty
one days prior to an inter-county event this will make it clear who will be
invited to shoot for the county.
The County Champion with the help of the team manager will select and invite
from those top scores the members to shoot for Hampshire and receive the coveted
Hampshire Shooting Team vest.
If you wish to be in a team we will need your contact details so please fill
out the slips that will appear shortly at the shooting grounds and return them
ASP.

No stopping the King.
As in the previous edition I reported the sad news that Ron King had broken
his right arm in several places on Christmas day and I did predict he would not
hang around in finding away to shoot. I was spot on with my prediction Ron’s
passion for shooting is unbelievable he found an older Krieghoff stock cut bit
out added bits in so his finger would reach the trigger and entered a few
competitions to see how he would cope.
A bit slow to start with bearing in mind his arm is plastered up and beyond the
elbow several metal plates complete with a dozen screws he then went on to shoot
a 48 ex 50 sporting at Fareham CTC taking AA class and then recently took High
Gun at Up-Avon with a 90 ex 100 fantastic stuff glad to see you back Ron.
