HAMPSHIRE COUNTY SKEET CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010
On Sunday July 25th 2010, the Hampshire County Skeet Championships got
underway at the Fareham Clay Target Club. The early starters experienced a
fine but overcast sky with little wind to trouble them. As the day
progressed the weather brightened up and the breeze at times created some
challenging targets. An overall disappointing attendance with a total of
twenty three, seventeen of which were Hampshire shooters, making up a total
of five squads. The Hampshire man on form at the moment had little challenge
from any opposition, apart from his own son Miles Fleming, who was hot on
his heels throughout and came in second as The Hampshire Junior Skeet
Champion with a respectable score of 97, one point behind his father Martyn
Fleming the 2010 Hampshire Skeet Champion on 98. The Veterans Skeet Champion
was John Mallon and the Ladies Skeet Champion was Donna Handley. Up and
coming contenders for next year's championships could well be Alan Saunders
and Mark Pearce who both put in scores of 95. I would like to thank Fareham
Clay Target Club for arranging competent referees for this event. This was
a welcome change from previous shoots where the standard of some of the
refereeing has been questionable, today this was not the case and I would
like to thank those referees for their excellent work. Well done to the 2010
Champions and also to all of those that have taken part. There was a
noticeable absence of Simon Jones with his camera at the award ceremony, get
well Simon, we all hope to see you back at the club in the not too distant
future.

Twelve shooters attended the very first Hampshire County Championship Shoot
at Owls Lodge Shooting Ground, the home of Olympic Gold Medallist Richard Faulds
MBE and Tanya Faulds, on Saturday 4th April 2010. This fine but
blustery day, produced some interesting targets and a nail biting finish,
refereed by Les Stevenson.
Hampshire shooters:
Wayne Long 21 22 23 24 = 90 + 3
Paul Oldring 23 24 23 19 = 89
Trevor Bell 15 15 17 18 = 65

After a sudden death shoot of on peg four, John Porter was crowned Hampshire
Olympic Skeet Champion 2010, with a score of 90 + 4 The overall registered
competition was won by Guy Franklin with a score of 95. Well done to all those
who took part in this competition. This was the first registered shoot to be
held at Owls Lodge Shooting Ground at Barton Stacey, since it opened in the
latter part of 2009. This well managed and easily accessible venue just of the
A303, will be home to many more registered, non registered and County
Championship shoots in the not too distant future. Let’s hope that more and more
Hampshire and other shooters will come along to support this fine venue, for
either practice or competition. www.owlslodgeshootingschool.co.uk , many
thanks to Richard and Tanya for their much welcomed hospitality.

Chris Dean
Hampshire Olympic Trap Champion 2010
The second Hampshire
championship shoot was held at Owl's Lodge Shooting School on the 17th April
2010, Seventeen competitors braved the Hampshire sunshine to shoot Olympic
Trap. Conditions were near perfect and Chris Dean was the clear overall winner
and new Hampshire Champion.
Hampshire 50 Single Barrel – Sunday 11th April 2010
This well supported competition was held at Fareham Clay Target Club where 25
Competitors registered to take part. The weather conditions were really good
however, sometimes tricky as most Competitors managed to lose the odd target to
the backdrop of both layouts. At the end of the competition there was a tie as
Ron King, Pete Thomson and Phil Eames returned a final score of 46/50. This led
to a shoot off being held over 25 Targets, and at the end of the shoot off both
Ron King and Phil Eames were still tied on 23/25. This led to a sudden death
shoot off however, with Phil Eames unfortunately missing his second target out
this allowed Ron King to successfully hit his target thereby winning the
competition and becoming the Hampshire Single Barrel Champion for 2010.

Hampshire Helice Championship 6th March 2010
The first Helice championship for Hampshire was held at the
A1 Shooting Ground in conjunction with Berkshire who had chosen a very early
date in the calendar which meant that not all of the Hampshire shooters could
attend at such short notice. However on the day 9 Hampshire members turned up to
shoot with the other 37 shooters from a variety of counties, including a 2 times
world champion and many GBR shooters. On the day the Hampshire scores ex 15
targets varied from 13 down to 6 with Malcolm Grant becoming the first Hampshire
champion with a score of 13 well done.
